At Aztec Animal Hospital, we understand how frightening it can be to have surgery and anesthesia on your pet.  That’s why our skilled team uses state-of-the-art equipment and stays with your pet from start to finish. Before surgery, we will spend the time to answer all of your questions and address all of your concerns so you can feel confident leaving your pet in our care.  You will be given an estimate before surgery and we request that you be available by phone if we need to reach you with any updates on surgery or changes to the estimate.  The most common reason we need to reach you during surgery is to approve advanced dental care such as applying antibiotic gel to infected pockets or removing teeth that are painful or diseased.

All pets undergoing a surgical procedure are required to have preanesthetic lab work done.  This allows us to ensure that the inside of your pet is as healthy as the outside and reduces risks of surgical complications.

Some of the surgical procedures we offer include:

  • Spay and neuter for cats and dogs
  • Dental Cleaning including: dental X-rays and extractions

Orthopedic surgeries:

  • Tight-rope Cruciate Surgery: A minimally invasive procedure for repairing torn ACLs in dogs, restoring stability to the knee joint and helping your pet return to normal activity faster.
  • Luxating Patella Repair: Corrects kneecaps that slip out of place, reducing pain and improving mobility.
  • Fracture Repair (Bone Pin): We use surgical pins to stabilize broken bones, ensuring proper healing and a safe recovery.
  • FHO (Femoral Head Osteotomy): This hip surgery helps pets suffering from severe arthritis or hip dysplasia regain comfort and function.

Soft Tissue Surgery:

  • Growth Removals: Safe removal of lumps, bumps, and masses for diagnosis and treatment.
  • Cystotomy (Bladder Stone Surgery): Removal of painful bladder stones to prevent urinary issues.
  • C-Section: Safe delivery of puppies or kittens when natural birth isn’t possible.
  • Laser Ear Crops: Precise, cosmetic ear cropping using laser for reduced pain and quicker recovery.
  • Laser Declaw: Gentle laser declawing with minimal bleeding and discomfort.
  • Splenectomy: Removal of the spleen due to injury, disease, or tumors.
  • Mastectomy: Removal of mammary tumors to improve your pet’s health.
  • Exploratory Surgery: To find and treat GI blockages or other internal concerns.
  • Tail Docking & Dewclaw Removal: Performed with care for cosmetic or medical reasons.
  • Gallbladder Surgery: Advanced surgery for gallstones or infection.

*We recommend docking tails and removing dew claws before 3 days of age.  After that, the surgeries are more intensive. Plan ahead to get the procedure done before the puppies are too old!
